A 12-day safari that incorporates primate watching, wildlife encounters, and cultural experiences can provide a well-rounded adventure. Here’s a suggested itinerary, but keep in mind that you might need to adjust based on your preferences, the specific destinations, and any travel restrictions in place:
YOUR 12 DAYS INTINERAY
Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport you will be met and briefed by our representative who then will transfer you to your accommodation hotel in Kigali dinner and an overnight.
Day 2: Travel to PNV
After breakfast you will be picked up from your Hotel in Kigali city and be transferred to Volcanoes National Park via the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Ground, handicrafts shops, the museum, and many other fascinating places in Kigali. In the afternoon transfer to PNV in Ruhengeri a home to more than 360 Mountain Gorillas which are some of the remaining ones in the world. Dinner and overnight stay at Mountains Gorilla View Lodge or La Palme Hotel. or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodg
Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trek
After break fast drive to Tshivanga Visitor Centre for briefing by the trekkers. after you will then acompanied by armed game rangers. The gorilla group that you will visit will depend on the assignment of travellers to the seven habituated gorilla groups. Park rangers have already left to locate the 7 habituated Gorilla groups that are accessible to visitors. You will be assigned to a specific group of gorillas. Groups of trekkers will have a maximum of 8 visitors per gorilla family. Your trek will vary in length depending on which gorilla group you have been assigned to and will commence at about 7,000 feet of altitude in the upper terraced slopes of the volcano. Soon you will enter the forest of bamboo and thick undergrowth. In the forest you will be allowed at least an hour in the presence of the these gorillas. Return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight at Mt Gorilla View Lodge or La Palme Hotel. or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge
Day 4: Golden monkeys trekking and transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, go for Golden Monkey trekking.as well look out for other primates such as like Apes and Monkeys, bird species and butterfly species. After the trek, you will then transfer to Lake Kivu which is the country’s biggest fresh water in western parts of Rwanda, for lunch and refleshment after which you will undertake a 2-4 hours launch cruise along the Lake to the coffee Island. The cruise will provide you with a spectacular view of the Kibuye and Gisenyi towns and also the Nyiragongo Volcano in Congo which erupted recently in 2002. Dinner and overnight stay at Kivu Sun Hotel /Kivu Serena Hotel
Day 5: Transfer to Butare
After breakfast, you will transfer to Butare town via Kigali for a city tour, visit the old King’s Palace in Nyanza have a lunch stop over before connecting to Butare. later visit the National Museum. Dinner and Overnight stay at Hotel Credo (FB)
Day 6: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Early morning after breakfast you will drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park via Gikongoro. with a lunch stopover en-route. in the evening you may go for a forest /nature walk or primate tracking such as the black and white colobus Monkeys. varvet monkey, L hoest, blue monkeys etc. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House /Nyungwe Forest Lodge/Nyungwe Hotel
Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing by the rangers then set off for the Chimpanzee trekking activity with in the forest to search for the man’s closest friends. You will be accompanied by Forest Ranger guides who will show you different forest trail. The activity takes around 3-5 hours. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will take a guided nature walk with in the forest. This will enable all those bird loving tourists to spot different bird species with in the forest. You should look out for birds like the black and white casqued hornbill and the Rwenzori Turacco. Dinner and overnight stay at Gisakura Guest House /Nyungwe Forest Lodge/Nyungwe Hotel
Day 8: Transfer back to Kigali.
After breakfast, you will take a short forest walk and later drive back to Kigali. Dinner and overnight stay at Step Town Motel/Hotel Chezlando / Kigali Serena/ Milles Collines
Day 9: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Akagera National Park the smallest wildlife park, have lunch at Akagera Game Lodge. Later in the evening you will go for the evening game drive in search for wildlife animals like Elephants, Antelopes, Giraffes, Impalas, Zebras, Topis, Baboons, Bush Babies, Leopards, Buffaloes, Gazelles and so on. Return to Akagera Game Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Game drive and boat ride on Lake Ihema
After breakfast early in the morning go for a morning game drive in search for the early risers and other animals that you missed out on the previous game drive. You will encounter other animals like Masai Giraffes, Antelopes, African Elephants, Buffaloes, Zebra, Leopards among others. Return for lunch, in the evening embark on the boat cruise at Lake Ihema here you will en-counter Crocodiles, Hippos and water loving birds like the rare shoebill stork, Fish Eagle, Kingfishers and so on. Return to Akagera Game Lodge for dinner and overnight stay. (FB)
Day 11: Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Kigali. for the short Kigali City tour and visit the Genocide memorial sites, Cultural sites, craft centers and shops as well local markets. Dinner and overnight stay at Step Town Motel/Hotel Chezlando
Day 12: Departure
Depending on the time of your flight, you will be transferred to the Airport for your flight back home.
