This Safari involves a cultural tour in Kigali city – Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site; and gorilla trekking expedition in Volcanoes National Park. The safari starts and ends in Kigali.
YOUR 8 DAYS INTINERAY
Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met by our representative who then will transfer you to your accommodation hotel in Kigali dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, check out and drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park., en route at Butare visit the National Museum, Mirambi Genocide memorial site and the King’s Palace . Overnight stay at Nyungwe Safari Lodge / Gisakura Guest House
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking Nyungwe forest
Very early in the morning assemble at Gisakura park headquarters for briefing from the senior park ranger before embacking on the forest walk in search for the chimpanzees. This afternoon after the trecking we drive to Kibuye to the scenic Lake Kivu. Overnight stay at Kivu Serena Hotel / Paladis Malahide
Day 4: Lake Kivu – Parc des Volcans
his day starts with a relaxed morning as we enjoy the Lake’s tranquil setting, or perhapsyou may deside to visit the nearby volcanic hot springs before we drive to Musanze (formerly called Ruhengeri) in the northwest part of Rwanda, the main base town for Gorilla tracking.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking
After break fast drive to Tshivanga Visitor Centre for briefing by the trekkers. after you will then acompanied by armed game rangers. The gorilla group that you will visit will depend on the assignment of travellers to the seven habituated gorilla groups. Park rangers have already left to locate the 7 habituated Gorilla groups that are accessible to visitors. You will be assigned to a specific group of gorillas. Groups of trekkers will have a maximum of 8 visitors per gorilla family. Your trek will vary in length depending on which gorilla group you have been assigned to and will commence at about 7,000 feet of altitude in the upper terraced slopes of the volcano. Soon you will enter the forest of bamboo and thick undergrowth. In the forest you will be allowed at least an hour in the presence of the these gorillas. Return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight at Mt Gorilla View Lodge | La Palme Hotel.
Day 6: Golden monkey tracking or Visiting Dian Fossey Graveyard
On this day you may choose to track golden monkeys within the Volcanoes National Park. These Golden Monkeys are one of the most endangered primates . or You also have the option visit Dian Fossey graveyard at Karisoke. Return to your lodge for lunch after which you will either relax at the lodge or take a short community tour to the nearby towns and villages.
Day 7 – Parc des Volcans – Kigali
After an early breakfast we report again to the Volcanoes National Park’s Office to undergo the now familiar gorilla trekking formalities. We then re-enter the forest for the second and final gorilla trek visiting a different family than yesterday.
Day 8 – Departure
After breakfast you will enjoy a Kigali for a city tour and visit to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial before being transferred to the airport in time for your onward flight.
