One destination that offers both hiking opportunities and primate watching is East Africa, particularly Uganda and Rwanda. These countries are known for their lush landscapes, diverse wildlife, and, in particular, their populations of gorillas and chimpanzees.


Day 1-3: Arrival and Acclimatization

  • Arrive at the starting destination (e.g., an international airport in a nearby city).
  • Transfer to your accommodation and rest to acclimatize.
  • Briefing with your guide to discuss the upcoming itinerary.

Day 4-5: Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

  • Hike to see the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.
  • Enjoy a cultural experience with the local community.
  • Explore the park’s other hiking trails.

Day 6-7: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda

  • Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to another population of mountain gorillas.
  • Participate in gorilla tracking and trekking.
  • Optional nature walks or bird watching in the surrounding area.

Day 8-9: Nyungwe Forest National Park, Rwanda

  • Head to Nyungwe Forest for chimpanzee trekking.
  • Explore the Canopy Walkway and hike through the ancient rainforest.
  • Bird watching and other primate encounters.

Day 10-11: Kibale National Park, Uganda

  • Travel to Kibale National Park for a full day of chimpanzee tracking.
  • Explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.
  • Hike the Crater Lakes region for stunning views.

Day 12-14: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

  • Journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
  • Hike the trails of the Rwenzori Mountains.
  • Go on a safari game drive to see diverse wildlife.
  • Take a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel.
  • Visit the Kyambura Gorge for more primate tracking.

Day 15: Departure

  • Depending on your departure time, you might have the opportunity for a morning activity.
